Child Faith Formation & Youth Ministry

Child Faith Formation –

“‘Let the little children come to me; do not hinder them. For it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Amen, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.’ And he took them up into his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them.”  – Mark 10: 14 -16

Our Children hold a special place in Jesus’ heart, as they do in ours. Our Lord wants to bless his children with his love and attention; so too does he extend this great responsibility unto those who are called to be parents. So how are we to “let the little children” come to him? Is Jesus asking us to simply drop them off once a week for Catechism classes? Or does Jesus want something more from us? More for our children?

Some would be surprised to know that Catechism isn’t just for kids, it’s actually a great gift from the Church to help all of us better understand and love God!

Chapter 2222 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church says that first and foremost, parents fulfill their responsibility to their children by being an example of faithful Christians. You let your children come to God by first running to him yourselves! Primary catechesis happens not by the reading of some dusty old textbooks, but rather through examples of faithful living!

  • For students preparing to receive a Sacrament such as First Communion or Confirmation, an additional sacramental preparation fee must be paid to cover the cost of retreats.

Youth Ministry –

We know that the sacraments are amazing graces from God to help nourish and strengthen his children. The sacraments should “set us up” for a life of hope and love. We certainly want this life for our children. So then why do so many of them stop receiving spiritual guidance and support after completing Catechism classes? Holy Spirit’s Youth Ministry is meticulously designed to be a relationship-based, faith resource hub for our middle and high school aged adolescents.

It maintains three goals in conformity with the U.S Bishops’ pastoral framework, Renewing the Vision:

  1.  To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.
  2. To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community.
  3. To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.
